The international festival Theater op de Markt has been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak. This festival for circus, street theater and arts in public space was set to be held from August 6 to 9.
The festival is following the national guidelines. The Belgian government bans major events until end of August. Previous editions the festival welcomed approximately 120.000 visitors in the city of Hasselt. The decision to cancel was a difficult one. But the health of our artists, visitors and colleagues will always be our priority.
Theater op de Markt dates back to 1988 and would have its 11th edition in the city of Hasselt in 2020. In its 32-year-history the festival has been cancelled for he first time.
In 2021 we are planning a circus festival in a new formula. And in 2022 we will be back in Hasselt. Some of the artists programmed for 2020 will be included in these future festivals.
