'Mystica' is a ritual that gives voice to eight mystical women who lived between the eighth and sixteenth centuries.
The preserved texts of Hildegard von Bingen, Mirabai, Teresa of Avila, Sun Bu’er, and others were rewritten by Elisa Demarré into modern poetry and woven by Timo Tembuyser into a contemporary polyphony. Floating hair pendants and choir singers seek connection together, like a community learning to speak a shared language again. What do the words of these female spirits awaken in us today?
'Mystica' is a performance by MOVEDBYMATTER and Muziektheater Transparant, directed by Kasper Vandenberghe, where circus and music theatre meet. Set to basslines composed by Jens Bouttery, hair pendants and choir singers together build a spiritual microcosm in which everything is interconnected. 'Mystica' is an exploration of the lost, mystical undercurrent in the here and now. Not an escape, but a strikingly visual performance where togetherness is at the heart of it all.
