In 'It really hurts when your head hits the concrete', DeRonde/Deroo create a physical and absurd site-specific performance about what people carry with them. Without words, but with acrobatics, surreal images and a logic that keeps tilting.
About the company
DeRonde/Deroo is a Dutch-Belgian collective made up of Tom de Ronde (NL) and Nick Deroo (BE). Both studied at the Mime School of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, where they discovered their shared love of immersive, cinematic theatre.
The collective creates dream worlds with their own rules and surreal moments. As a spectator, you step into a universe that is strange, physical and recognisable all at once. Their performances are often described as visually overwhelming poems.
It really hurts when your head hits the concrete is their third performance. It has won, among other awards, the audience prize at the Café Theater Festival in Arnhem, the Spoffin OFF Audience Award in 2024 and the Wim Barry Stipendium for young talent from Het Cultuurfonds in Amsterdam in 2025.
