Circuswerkplaats Dommelhof, the organisation behind Theater op de Markt, is committed to following a number of circus artists on their artistic journey.
During Theater op de Markt 2023, we will turn a spotlight on Aline Breucker & Quintijn Ketels of Side-Show, many times artist in residence at Dommelhof and frequent guest of Theater op de Markt. With two performances, an exhibition in the foyer and a film and documentary programme curated by them, Side-Show’s work and visual universe is an ongoing presence during Theater op de Markt 2023.
Side-Show is also a continuous presence at Dommelhof. On the circus square, near the Un Loup pour l'Homme circus tent, discover the circus kwizien: a container that was set up as an extra kitchen for the artists who come to Dommelhof in residence throughout the year to work on their new creations. In 2021, Side-Show was invited to open up this internal kitchen a little. In the wake of their intervention, the container seems to have undergone a rather rough overhaul. Or perhaps something was trying to escape from within? For instance, there are gaps, draft holes or hatches. These seemingly subtle interventions radically alter the container. They testify to a broader desire for exchange between artistic processes and their environment.
